If you are a member of gen Z, then you are probably familiar with the term “cooked”. Finished, done, finito; many ways to express the utter doom you are in. As I reflect on this year, I can’t help but embody this feeling of “cooked”. As someone who considers themselves fairly AI-pilled, I can’t help but feel that a large contribution to the downfall of my ability to think has been AI and what is effectively “offloading” my cognition.
Well, I am not alone, others are reporting in droves about how they are ditching technology. Hell, there even entire industries aimed at reclaiming your attention span, see brick[1]. I myself succumbed to the targeted ads and purchased one. I admit, it worked at first. I “bricked” myself for a few hours and was able to read successfully for a few hours. This freedom was fleeting however, and I found myself back in the loop of scrolling.
So that leads me to this. My latest attempt at “uncooking” my brain. Writing has always been cathartic to me. If you look hard enough, you’ll find a Medium account with shitty takes that likely haven’t aged well. Well here’s to more of those!
I think this attempt is particularly important. I don’t want my thinking, my writing, and definitely not the way I speak, become mere imitations of Opus or Astra. I want my voice to feel like me; distinct and something real. Hopefully this practice, and staying consistent to it, helps that.
